Countdown to NaNo!

Countdown to NaNo!

We’re just 3 days from NaNo! Whee….

Some of you may have every detail of your novel plotted out, others might not even know what genre you’re going to write and others might like me and be somewhere in the middle. Regardless of where you are in the planning process, start NaNo with a bang and come join us at our Ring In NaNo Write In on Saturday night .

What: Ring In NaNo Write In
When: Saturday October 31 at 11 pm until Sunday November 1st at 2 am.
Where: Old Chicago Group Room, 1938 W. Grand River Ave, Okemos

We’ll have guilt monkeys to pass out, goodie bags for people who couldn’t come to the kick off, the cauldron of doom word wars, our NaNoLansing Event cards and other fun things.  Come in costume or street clothes.  Either way, come help us ring in NaNo as the clock strikes midnight and all of us fiercely write away.  Perhaps we might even start off with a Cauldron of Doom challenge?

What’s coming up next week:

  • Write In – Thursday November 5 from 7 to 10 pm  at Old Chicago.
  • Sign up for Courtney’s (YuOfOwari) Tuesday write ins. She needs at least 6 people to come for the room to be reserved for us. You can find more information here.
  • Matt (gbjazzman) is going to be writing late nights on the west side. Read more about it here.
  • Our friends at the Capital City Writer’s Association are having a free all day write in at the Spartan Stadium On Saturday November 7th.  For more information see their website.

And while you’re at the forums, stop over at these threads:

Also – don’t forget to activate your novel and most of all….

Have fun!

There's still time to RSVP for our Kick Off Party Sunday October 25th.

Hey there NaNoLansing Wrimos,

It’s really easy to get busy with life and NaNo prepping and then have time whoosh by.  But there’s still time to RSVP for our Kick Off party this Sunday from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Avenue Cafe in Lansing.

Maybe you’re on the fence about coming.  Perhaps you’re not sure about venturing out.  Maybe you feel a little anxious in social situations.  Well come anyway.  We’re a really friendly group.

Still not convinced?  Here’s a preview of what you’ll be missing if you don’t come:

  • Meet your fellow wrimos and get to know them.  There will be prizes that go along with that.
  • A raffle for one of our cute little NaNoRhino mascots.
  • Our silent auction with all kinds of cool things like books written by a local wrimo, NaNo stuff, and jewelry to name a few things.  (Bring cash to purchase these.)  All proceeds will go toward NaNoWriMo.
  • Make your own mini-book station.
  • Information about all the cool things we’ll be doing during NaNo.
  • Games.
  • Good food .
  • Your first activity toward winning adorable book muse creatures.
  • Loads of fun!

So RSVP here and sign up for the potluck here.  Please bring something to add to our silent auction too.

If you’re reading this too late to RSVP – come anyway.  We still want to see you!

Hope to see you there!

Slides from Our Two Great Workshop Presenters

NaNoLansing was very fortunate to have two talented writers provide workshops to help us prepare for NaNoWriMo. Kelly Rogers and Erin Bartels both gave amazing talks.

Kelly provided some excellent and motivating information on how to plot your novel, while Erin helped us conceptualize our novels through setting.

If you were unable to attend one or both of these talks, fear not. These wonderful women have given us permission to post their presentation materials.

Plotting in a NaNoWriMo Second – Kelly Rogers presentation on October 8, 2015

Settings – Erin Bartels presentation on October 15, 2015

Thank you again. You inspired all of us!
